Women are wonderfully complex.
Hormones, emotions, energy, sleep, digestion, stress, all woven into one ever changing tapestry.
The beauty of Traditional Chinese Medicine is that it does not blame you for any of it.
It simply recognizes patterns and supports them gently.
Here are the most common women’s health patterns we see at the CCATCM Student Clinic:
Spleen Qi Deficiency: “I am tired and also hungry again.”
You want snacks. You want comfort. You want a nap right after you finish your nap.
You might feel bloated or heavy.
You might get overwhelmed easily.
This is your Spleen asking for warmth, routine, and nourishment.
Liver Qi Stagnation: “Everything is fine but also I could scream into a pillow.”
This shows up as irritability, mood swings, PMS, sighing, frustration, tight shoulders, or feeling emotionally stuck.
Your Liver energy needs movement and ease.
Nothing is wrong with you. Your Qi just wants flow.
Kidney Yin Deficiency: “My battery is drained and my body is giving me hints.”
Dry skin, dry hair, night sweats, heat rising, trouble sleeping, low back tension, brain fog.
This is your Yin asking for rest and deeper nourishment.
It is your body saying, “Stop giving so much. I need refilling.”
Blood Deficiency: “I feel pale, tender, tired, and not fully fueled.”
You might feel lightheaded, forgetful, cold, low energy, or emotionally sensitive.
Your period might be light or irregular.
Your Blood needs building and support.
Heart Shen Imbalance: “My mind will not sit still and I feel stretched thin.”
This often shows up as anxiety, trouble falling asleep, restlessness, or worrying that you are somehow not doing enough.
Your Heart Shen simply needs anchoring and calm.
Dampness: “Why do I feel swollen, heavy, or puffy all the time.”
This can look like bloating, foggy thinking, swelling, sluggish digestion, or feeling sticky or weighed down inside your own body.
Your system needs help transforming moisture.
Cold in the Uterus: “My cramps feel deep and icy.”
You may have painful periods, clotting, low abdominal coldness, or fertility challenges.
Your body needs warmth, circulation, and gentle care.
The beautiful part
These patterns are not diagnoses.
They are stories your body tells.
They are conversations your acupuncturist listens to.
And they are absolutely treatable through acupuncture, herbs, nutrition, and lifestyle shifts.
Women everywhere experience these patterns, and here at Atlantic Women’s Wellness, Acupuncture New Brunswick, I see them every single day. There is nothing wrong with you for feeling this way. Your body is simply asking for balance, and TCM gives us a map to find it.
A Gentle Note: I’m a student of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and this space reflects my learning as it unfolds. TCM is deep, layered, and complex, and I’m still finding my footing within it. I will refine my understanding over time. I will make mistakes. That’s part of doing this honestly. What I share here is my current perspective, shaped by my teachers, clinical training, lived experience, and my own biases. It’s not absolute, it’s evolving. I welcome thoughtful conversation, shared insight, and respectful correction along the way. I humbly welcome your insight. Let’s learn together. You can always find me over on Instagram to keep the conversation going.
