There’s something really grounding about going back to where things started.
This presentation came out of a deep dive into cosmetic acupuncture and gua sha, not just as treatments, but as practices that have been evolving alongside women’s bodies for a very long time. Before any of this became “skincare,” it was about circulation, vitality, and the way the face reflects what’s happening deeper in the body.
When we talk about cosmetic acupuncture now, it’s easy for it to get lumped into the world of quick fixes and surface-level results. But in Chinese medicine, the face is never separate. It’s connected to digestion, to sleep, to stress, to hormones, to how well things are moving and being nourished internally. That’s the piece that still feels the most important to hold onto.
This presentation walks through that full picture, the history, how these methods developed, and how they’re being used today in a way that still respects their roots. It also touches on gua sha, which so many people are familiar with now, but often without the context that makes it actually work the way it’s meant to.
If you take anything from this, let it be this, we’re not chasing youth here. We’re supporting vitality. We’re working with the body so the skin has what it needs to do its job well.
And like anything in this medicine, this is something I’m still learning through, refining, and seeing play out in real time. Some of these ideas will deepen, some might shift, but that’s part of the work.
